This Brown Rice & Lentil Burgers with Creamy Tahini Sauce recipe will surely put you in the spring mood, because it is light on the stomach yet SO satisfying with each bite! To my surprise, these burgers were actually VERY EASY to make and didn’t take much time at all!

Tip #1: I used a cast iron skillet to cook my burgers with a drizzle of olive oil. It helped the burgers to be extra crispy on the outside – yummy!

Tip #2: After I finished cooking the burgers, I transferred them to a plate. Then, I added one more drizzle of olive oil in the cast iron skillet. I placed both the bottom and top of the bun face-down in the cast iron to become perfectly toasted! Personally, I think this is a vital step to making the perfect burger!

Tip #3: Most weeks, I have been trying to prep a large quantity of brown rice and lentils, because there is just SO MUCH you can make with them. For example, you can make these delicious burgers! hehe 🙂 … or you could make lentil soup, brown rice and chicken chili, and a variety of nourish bowls.

Tip #4: To make the perfect burger, you have to add only your favorite toppings! This veggie burger honestly pairs well with all burger additions, so go at it with your favorites!

Think sauces: like our creamy tahini sauce, mustard, ketchup, mayo. etc. Think veggies: like slice cucumbers, thinly sliced red onions, slice tomatoes, lettuce, kale, etc. If you’re feeling adventurous, then maybe add some crunchy potato chips or crispy sweet potato fries – I am getting hungry again! lol

Brown Rice & Lentil Burgers with Creamy Tahini Sauce

Brown Rice & Lentil Burgers:

  • 1 1/2 cups Green or Brown Lentils, cooked
  • 3/4 cup Brown Rice, cooked
  • 1 Flax Egg (Whisk 1 tbsp flax seed meal and 2.5 tbsp warm water, then let it sit for 2 minutes.)
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Fresh Parsley, substitute with cilantro
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 1/2 Red Onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. Olive Oil + more for cooking
  • Zest & Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 1 tsp. Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. Chili Pepper or Cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp. each of Sea Salt & Black Pepper
  • 3 tbsp. Whole Wheat Flour or Breadcrumbs

Creamy Tahini Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup Tahini
  • 1/4 cup Lukewarm Water
  • 2 – 3 tbsp. Lemon Juice, about 2 lemons
  • 1/4 tsp. Sea Salt
  • 2 tsp. Freshly Parsley, finely minced
  • (Optional) Garlic Cloves, finely minced


Brown Rice & Lentil Burgers:

  • In a high-speed blender or food processor, add in the chopped red onions, garlic cloves, and parsley. Pulse 2-3 times, until the red onions are finely chopped.
  • Add the remaining ingredients into the blender. Pulse until well combined. (Do NOT blend until smooth, you still want some texture to the burger.)
  • Transfer to a bowl and chill in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  • Place a nonstick pan or cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil (about 1 tablespoon).
  • Shape 4 large burger patties out of the batter, then place them in the cast iron skillet. (I highly recommend shaping the burgers with slightly wet hands.)
  • Cook for 4-6 minutes on each side, until crispy brown.
  • (TIP: If you want to bake the burgers, then place the burger patties on a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake at 400F for 15 minutes, then gently flip and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.)
  • Enjoy warm!

Creamy Tahini Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients. Spread liberally on each burger.
