Dried Citrus Ornaments: Orange Slices & Grapefruit Slices
This year, my family decided that we were going to try to keep our decorations very minimalistic & simple. So, of course I went scrolling through Pinterest for some inspiration, because all great ideas come from Pinterest, right? I found a variety of different photos of people drying citrus fruits for ornaments, so I decided let’s give it a try! I know that this may not be everyone’s favorite decorations, but we actually ended up loving it on our tree!
Although it does take some patience, it is so worth it! Just watch a hallmark movie (or two 😉 ) and it will be done before you know it!
IT IS AS SIMPLE AS:
Preheat oven to 200F.
Thinly slice your citrus fruits (we chose grapefruit & oranges), and place on your non-stick baking pan or a pan lined with parchment paper.
Dehydrate the citrus slices for 2.5-3 hours, depending on the thickness of your slices. (So if I were you, slice them as thin as you can!)
Hint: Flip the citrus slices every hour, to insure that both sides are equally dehydrated.
For hanging dried citrus slices: Allow the dried citrus slices to cool. If necessary, puncture a small hole in each dried citrus slice to string the twine through. Use cotton cooking twine to string through each dried citrus slice, and tie a knot after each dried citrus slice, so that they do not move. (Look at pictures)
That’s it! You’re done! Have fun!
