Ever Feel Left Out?

“God will bring you, in body & soul, through life & death to full and everlasting joy if God is your supreme treasure, safest refuge, sovereign savior, and highest counselor” – John Piper

Yeah, yeah, I get it. Everyone says “it’s always greener on the other side.” But, sometimes I just don’t want to listen to them. Anyone with me? You want to drown in your sorrow, until you feel completely foolish for your (sometimes petty) complaints.

It’s easier that way, right? Wrong… In reality, all our body & souls want is full and everlasting joy. Until we receive this gift of complete joy, we will never. be. satisfied. We don’t really want Person A’s social media followers, or Person B’s travel lifestyle, or Couple A’s relationship goals… our souls are really just searching to find what will temporarily fulfill them. And in the long run, it will just leave us empty once again…

I recently read Psalm 16, and the following Sunday my pastor preached his sermon on the same chapter. It was if God was blatantly telling me, “Lauren, pay attention closely.” So, here I am reading it again… Verse 11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Forevermore. Forever. Plus more.  God is the one who will bring you the absolute greatest, most magnificent joy that is to be enjoyed as a present gift & extends into eternity. His joy will completely fulfill you, permanently, forevermore.

David declares to God, in verse 5, “you [God] hold my lot.” David is surrendering his everything to God, recognizing that at the end of the day when the wheel has been spun and the sticks have been drawn, our fate does not come out of luck, but from God. “Therefore my heart is glad, and my WHOLE being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure” (verse 9). Wow. When we surrender our lives to the magnificence of Jesus, we are given a gift of confidence, like none other. A settled hope in the security of God in life beyond. For God’s people can “not be shaken” (verse 8)…  so no matter what you are going through in life, you can not be shaken. Seek God as your safest refuge in times of trouble, go to Him in prayer for counseling, praise Him as you sovereign savior, and put Him first as being your supreme treasure in life.

For being a servant of Christ, a radical out-of-this-world, take-up-my-cross, lay-down-my-life-for-Christ kind of Christian is UNSTOPPABLE.

Please let me know if I can pray for you.
