How Do We Experience God’s Love?
Do you ever find yourself scrolling through social media endlessly? Typically, it’s not because we are actually excited and interested in everyone’s life updates. Most times we are trying to fill in extra time, or shove aside our responsibilities. And most times, it leads us even more emptier than when we first got on…
Inside every individual is an empty void, longing to be filled. So… we may find ourselves surfing through television channels, binge watching Netflix series, endlessly scrolling through Instagram… but in the end, that does nothing for us besides it temporarily distracting us.
Now, you may be like, okay so what about this “empty void,” what exactly do I need to be fully living my best life? Well, it is as simple as… the love of God…
How do we experience God’s love? God truly shows His love for us by the way He shows us Himself. In the Bible, we do not once read about the physical appearance of Jesus Christ. Yet, we are constantly reminded of His ever-reigning glory, mercy, grace, sovereignty, and so on. When we examine the miraculous, unimaginable characteristics of our God, we will begin to see His abundant love behind each one of those characteristics. And once we see His love, we will never want to stop seeking for more of Him, and we will never be lost again, because our everlasting God is infinitely wonderful & exciting.
Think about it this way… when we say, “I love you” to someone, we typically are saying this to exemplify our desire to spend the rest of our lives with them, to manifest ourselves to them, to care for them, to constantly provide for them, to bring joy and comfort and hope to their lives. John 14:21 says, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I WILL LOVE him and MANIFEST MYSELF to him.” This verse makes me overwhelmingly excited and comforted. Because this Almighty God, who created the universe and knows the exact number of hairs on my head, LOVES me and wants to MANIFEST HIMSELF to me. He wants to be my sovereign Father, providing me with everlasting joy, unlimited hope, and the ultimate comfort. God chooses to love you far beyond your greatest desires, filling in that empty void.
One important reminder, that I always give myself, is that seeing His love for us doesn’t mean it takes away the sufferings of this earthly world. But, it does mean that it will make the pain of this earthly world bearable. We will be able to see the goodness of God through each trial, we will be able to use the God-given gift of hope to see beyond each trial, and we will be able to find our pleasure in the treasures of the heavenly world.
This is how we become fully satisfied with who we are, and how we fill that empty void in our lives… by allowing the light of God’s Word to infiltrate into our daily lives.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cant serve God and money.” Matthew 6:24
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17
“Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He [God] must increase, but I must decrease. He [God] who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He [God] who comes from heaven is above all.” John 3:29b-31
