Crispy Oven-Baked Chicken Wings with Lemon Garlic Aioli
These super crispy oven-baked chicken wings drizzled with hot honey and a lemon garlic aioli are the perfect game day recipe that everyone will love!

Ingredients you’ll need:
- chicken wings
- bbq seasoning
- baking powder
- paprika
- garlic powder
- salt
- flour
- olive oil
- lemon
- yogurt
- mayonnaise
- honey
- garlic
How long do wings take to bake?
About 40–45 minutes total, flipping halfway. Larger wings may take a few extra minutes.
Can I make wings ahead of time?
Yes. Bake fully, cool, then refrigerate uncovered. Reheat at 400–425°F until hot and crispy again.
When should I add sauce?
Always after baking. Saucing before baking traps moisture and prevents crisping.
Why do my wings taste bitter or metallic?
This usually means baking soda was used instead of baking powder, or too much was added.

Why aren’t my oven-baked wings crispy?
Usually it’s excess moisture, overcrowding, or a low oven temp. Wings need to be very dry, spaced out, and baked hot to render fat and crisp the skin.
Do I need to use baking powder?
You don’t have to, but baking powder dramatically improves crispiness by helping the skin brown and blister. Make sure it’s aluminum-free to avoid off flavors.
Should wings be baked on a rack or directly on the pan?
A wire rack is best. It allows hot air to circulate so the wings crisp evenly instead of steaming in their own fat.
What oven temperature is best for crispy wings?
425°F (220°C) is ideal. Lower temps won’t render fat properly; higher temps risk burning before crisping.

Crispy Oven-Baked Chicken Wings with Lemon Garlic Glaze
Ingredients
For the Chicken Wings:
- 2-3 lb. Chicken Wings
- 1 tbsp. BBQ Seasoning
- 1 tbsp. Baking Powder
- 2 tsp. EACH: Paprika & Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 1/2 cup Flour
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- Zest of 1 Lemon
For the Lemon Garlic Aioli:
- 1/2 cup Plain Greek Yogurt
- 1/3 cup Mayonnaise
- Zest and Juice of 1-2 Lemons
- 1 tbsp. Honey
- 2-3 Garlic Cloves grated
For the Hot Honey Glaze:
- 1/3 cup Honey
- 1 tbsp. Sriracha or hot sauce
Instructions
For the Chicken Wings:
- Preheat oven to 425F. Add an oven-safe baking wire rack to a large, rimmed sheet pan. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine the sugar and lemon zest. Rub together with your fingers to release the lemon essential oils. Add the flour, BBQ seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
- Add the chicken wings to a large bowl, try not to transfer over any chicken juice from the packaging. Add the seasoning mixture and toss until well coated.
- Evenly distribute on the wire rack. Pat in any extra dry rub at the bottom of the bowl into any bare spots on the chicken wings. Bake 30-40 minutes, until deeply golden and crispy. Flip the chicken wings every 15 minutes.
For the Lemon Garlic Aioli:
- Mix all ingredients together until smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. (Optional: Add chili crisp oil for extra heat.)
For the Hot Honey Glaze:
- Mix the honey and hot sauce until smooth. Adjust to taste.
To Serve:
- Add 1/4 cup of the lemon garlic aioli to a piping bag, cut off a small tip. Drizzle the crispy chicken wings with the aioli and a generous drizzle of the honey honey glaze. Enjoy warm with extra lemon garlic aioli on the side!

I recently tried your Overnight Sourdough Focacciarecipe, and it turned out amazing! The bread was airy with a perfect crisp crust, just as described. Your step-by-step instructions made the process so approachable, even for a beginner like me. Thank you for sharing such a delightful recipe
Awe this is so awesome to hear! Thank you!! Definitely my favorite bread recipe Lol
The recipe for the crispy oven baked chicken wings. I don’t have a wire rack, so if I just place the wings on a sheet pan will they still turn out crispy. Where would I buy a wire rack (and would it come with a pan) or can I use wire rack and foil pan combination (forgot where I saw this
Hi Roberta! Yes, you can bake directly on the baking pan but I would recommend lining it with parchment paper to prevent any burning / sticking to the pan. Can’t wait for you to try them out 🙂
My family loved this! THANK YOU!
Makes me so happy to hear! My pleasure!!
This recipe is so good! I’ve made it 3 time since I first saw the video and my friends and family love it!
I have a question, for the chicken wings with hot sauce and lemon aoli do the wings have to be without skin or skin on ?
Hi Nat! I would use chicken wings with the skin on for an extra crispy outside!
This recipe is amazing!!! Definitely a new staple
Can these be made ahead? I’m planning a party and trying to do as much prep before the day as possible
Hi Chantel! Yes, you could either marinate the chicken wings the night before to bake day of serving. Or you could bake and let come to room temperature before storing away in an airtight container in the fridge. I would recommend adding a single layer of chicken wings, then place a sheet of parchment paper between each new layer. When ready to serve, reheat the wings in a 400F oven for about 10 minutes or until heated through and crispy! Also, just add any sauces when ready to serve 🙂
I’ve been developing my Superbowl Menu – will give your chicken wings a spin. Love the Aioli recipe. Classic.
