Can I Make Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls in Advnace?

Yes, you can make sourdough cinnamon rolls in advance!

The dough itself is made overnight, but you can also feed your sourdough starter at night and start the process in the morning. Then, once you’ve rolled your cinnamon rolls and let them rise 2 hours, place them in the fridge to bake the next morning. I recommend letting them sit out on the counter or in a warm oven for 1-2 hours before baking so they have time to come to room temperature b before baking, which will make them super soft!

How to Store and Reheat Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls?

You can store the baked cinnamon rolls on the counter for 1-2 days. Sourdough cinnamon rolls are best enjoyed the same day they’re baked, but you can reheat them in the microwave in 30 seconds intervals.

  • 1/3 cup Heavy Cream

For the Salted Maple Frosting:

  • 2 tbsp. Softened Butter
  • 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 4 tbsp. Maple Syrup
  • 1-2 tbsp. Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp. Fine Sea Salt or to taste

Instructions

For the Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls:

  • The Night Before: Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl until a shaggy dough. Turn out the dough on a clean surface to knead 2-3 minutes, until a smooth and soft dough. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour until kneadable .Cover with plastic wrap to sit on the counter overnight, 8-12 hours, until doubled in size.
  • The Next Morning: Gently roll out the dough to a large rectangle about 1/4" thick. Spread the softened butter for the filling evenly over the surface.
  • In a small bowl, combine the filling of brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Distribute evenly over the surface, patting into the butter to help it stick, Drizzle the maple syrup evenly over the sugar, then roll up tightly lengthwise.
  • Using a serrated knife, slice into 9 equal-sized rolls. Place in a parchment paper-lined and buttered 8-9″ pie plate or square baking pan.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm environment for 2-3 hours, until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Remove the plastic wrap and drizzle with the 1/3 cup heavy cream, focusing on the centers of each cinnamon roll.
  • Bake for 25-35 minutes, until the tops are deeply golden. Let cool at least 10 minutes before adding the frosting.

For the Frosting:

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the softened butter and cream cheese. Beat until smooth. Add 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and beat until fluffy. Add the maple syrup and remaining powdered sugar. Beat until soft and fluffy, adding the heavy cream as needed to help loosen up the frosting. Add salt to taste.
  • Add the frosting to the cinnamon rolls and let it set 5-10 minutes. Enjoy!

    1. Hi Jessica! There should be a YouTube video right before the recipe card to follow along 🙂 Sometimes different flour brands can make the recipe vary. I recommend adding a few tablespoons more flour at a time until a soft and pliable dough
