Do I need fresh espresso for an espresso martini?
Freshly brewed espresso gives the best flavor and crema, but you can also use strong brewed coffee, cold brew concentrate, or instant espresso in a pinch.
How do I get that thick, foamy top?
A strong, freshly brewed espresso helps, but the real trick is shaking hard and fast with plenty of ice. The aeration creates the signature frothy layer.
Should the espresso be hot or cooled?
Let it cool slightly before shaking. Hot espresso melts the ice too quickly and can water down the drink, but lukewarm espresso still creates great foam.
Can I make an espresso martini without an espresso machine?
Absolutely. Use instant espresso, Moka pot coffee, Aeropress, or cold brew concentrate for a similar bold flavor.

Why is my espresso martini watery?
It was likely shaken too long or with warm espresso. Use well-chilled ingredients, plenty of ice, and shake for about 10–15 seconds.
Can I batch espresso martinis for a party?
Yes! Mix everything except the ice, store it in the fridge, and shake individual servings with ice right before pouring to keep the foam fresh.
What kind of glass should I use?
A classic coupe or martini glass works best. Chill the glasses ahead of time for a colder, smoother pour.
What’s the best garnish?
Classic espresso martinis are topped with three coffee beans, symbolizing health, wealth, and happiness—though a dusting of cocoa or cinnamon is also delicious.
Can I make it non-alcoholic?
Yes! Swap the vodka for a non-alcoholic spirit (or omit it entirely) and use a flavored syrup or cold brew concentrate to add depth.

Definitely making this! Can I use ground ginger instead of fresh one? If yes, how much? TIA
Yes! I would start by adding 1 teaspoon ground ginger and then work up to 2 teaspoons based on taste!
This worked exactly as written, thanks!
